Recertification

The initial CNL certification is granted for a period of five years. Recertification must be renewed prior to the expiration date on one’s certificate. Certification renewal ensures that previously certified individuals continue to expand their knowledge relevant to the role of the CNL. For recertification, the following is required:

  1. Active practice as a CNL - A minimum of 1,500 hours over the five years practicing in a CNL role. Practice may include precepting or teaching other CNLs.
  2. Minimum of 150 contact hours over the five years relevant to the CNL or an advanced generalist nursing role.
  3. Documentation of impact or change in the practice setting.
