Recruitment initiative:
"The Power" 30 second video PSA. Goal is to promote awareness of nursing careers. Refers target group to nursing information web site.

Timeframe/Target population:
Ongoing, on all NC Fox TV stations/Middle school to high school youth with a focus on diversity.

Message:

Evaluation of effectiveness:
We're receiving an average of 30 visits to our web site per week.

Lessons learned:
People and agencies outside nursing are sincerely interested in assuring the availability of an adequate nurse workforce.

"Imagine the Difference" 30 and 60 second radio PSA

Evaluation of effectiveness:

Lessons learned:

Recruitment initiative:
"Talk with Kids about Nursing" campaign. A goal of this program is to encourage and equip nurses to talk with youth about nursing.

Message:
Nursing: The Power to Make A Difference

Evaluation of effectiveness:
We are providing ambassador cards with well researched "talking points." These will be disseminated to nurses and nurse aides throughout NC

Lessons learned:
We are working closely with nurse employers to emphasize the need to provide work environments promoting high nurse satisfaction. If nurses are not working in such an environment, they are not interested in recruiting youth into nursing. We are also encouraging nurse employers to "grow nurses locally."

Recruitment initiative:
NC Nursing Fact Sheet. The fact sheet is an overview of different types of nursing, education levels, etc. It is designed so that anyone can talk with kids about nursing. Available in English and Spanish.

Timeframe/Target population:
Ongoing/Middle to high school youth

Partners/Funders:
Health occupations education teachers, other teachers and guidance counselors.

Evaluation of effectiveness:
Feedback shows it's being used in a number of classrooms across the state. It's low cost since users make their own copies. Will evaluate upon web site entry

Lessons learned:

People as well as nurses in the community are interested in talking with groups about nurses if they have the resources to assist them.

Timeframe/Target population:
Ongoing/NC Girl Scouts and youth groups, e.g. Boy Scouts, Career Explorers, etc.

"You have the power to be anything you want to be! Make a Difference! Choose Nursing!

Evaluation of effectiveness:
We're currently designing the patch, but are already receiving a number of calls from troops expressing an interest in providing this campaign. Will report number of patches earned. Will evaluate upon web site entry.

Lessons learned:
A variety of youth programs such as Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, YWCA, YMCA, and 4H groups are interested in improving awareness of their participants in a variety of careers. We want to make sure they are aware of the rewards and challenges nursing has to offer.
