General Information
Colleagues
In Caring is a national grant program funded by
The
Robert Wood Johnson Foundation from 1995 to 2003.
Its purpose was to help states and regions build systems
of work force development with the capacity to adapt to
the rapid and continual changes in the nation's health care
system. The regional focus of CIC reflected
the assumption that most of the factors underlying nursing
care requirements are local and regional in nature. This
includes the employment market -- both supply and demand
-- and population demographics reflecting needs for health
care.
Each Colleagues
In Caring site brought together its region's stakeholders
in health care and nursing practice to create and sustain
a concerted workforce development system within its region.
These collaboratives include: 1. all levels of nursing
schools; 2. all categories of nursing care employers
(nursing homes, home health agencies, health departments,
physician groups, and hospitals); 3. appropriate professional
associations, accrediting agencies, and state and regional
education departments; 4. policy bodies relevant to
nursing workforce development; and 5. consumers, payers, and
businesses.
Although
foundation funding ceased in 2003, the legacy of Colleagues
in Caring continues today. Our future vision can be found
