Silos are for Farmers - Not for Fundraisers: Annual
Fund and Major Gift Programs in a Donor-Centered Environment.
For today's professional fundraisers, raising money is
a complex business. Donors have increasingly greater expectations
on charities and the competition between organizations
for dollars is fierce. At the same time, fundraisers now
have an array of programs at their disposal to attract
and maintain donors ranging from straight forward direct
appeals to sophisticated major giving vehicles. But how
should we apply these different strategies to maximize
giving? In this thought-provoking session on applying
Donor-Centered techniques, Penelope Burk explores how
major gifts and annual programs work (or fail to work)
together in sustaining donor loyalty and long-term philanthropy.
Speaker: Penelope Burk, President, Cygnus Applied
Research, Inc.

Keynote Address: More Money or More Donors
Joint Session with Deans
Building on the research from Donor-Centered Fundraising,
More Money or More Donors, takes a hard look at the real
costs donor acquisition programs. Through mathematical
examples and specific examples from the charitable sector,
this session identifies approaches that ultimately lead
to increased giving and greater donor satisfaction. It
also explores the contentious question of whether having
more donors will actually raise more money for your organization;
or are high donor volumes actually inhibiting donor loyalty
and performance.
Speaker: Penelope Burk, President, Cygnus Applied
