Making Lemons Into Lemonade
This session highlights using setbacks to your advantage. This includes nursing shortage and faculty shortage issues, budget crises, and others. How have schools triumphed over obstacles to raise more money, engage alumni, and convey their messages effectively?
You will also hear how to help constituents understand the following issues and use these messages to gain support, positive public relations and enhance alumni connections.

It’s an online world! From Facebook to MySpace to affinity circles, alumni, friends, students and donors increasingly rely on Web communications for virtually every part of their lives –including news, networking and their philanthropy. New strategies to reach these groups have become even more creative in their approach to Web sites, networking groups, chat rooms, etc.
A panel of speakers will discuss how to best tap into this resource to connect with your constituencies.

Anatomy of a Nursing Campaign: Two Perspectives

What does it take to put flesh and bones on the skeleton of a nursing school campaign, grow it to maturity and celebrate success? Hear how the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill conceived and delivered its larger $15 million campaign and how University of Missouri achieved its smaller $5 million goal a full 17 months ahead of schedule. Full of ideas, tip, and strategies to add life to the skeleton!
Break down the elements of a successful capital campaign at your school of nursing. How does nursing fit in with the university and how can you accomplish your unique goals and mission? This session will be helpful to professional who are both new to nursing development as well as those who have previous development experience but are new to the nursing profession. Come prepared to ask questions!

Keynote Address: Diversity and Nursing Advancement
Learn how to access and communicate with different age groups and ethnic groups, and tailor messages for marketing and fundraising to these diverse groups while considering the changing face of health care. Generational fundraising will be highlighted, as well as building a case to a diverse population (including nurses), and fundraising from the health care sector.

The registration fee for the 2008 Spring Nursing Advancement Professionals Conference is $389. The deadline for early registration is Friday, February 22, 2008. The registration fee after February 29 is $459. E-mail messages confirming registration for this meeting will be sent to all participants.

The cutoff date for hotel reservations is February 25, 2008. To make reservations, please call the hotel directly and request the group rate for the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. Transportation
Reagan National Airport (DCA) is located approximately 15 minutes from The Fairmont Hotel and is metro accessible. The closest metro stop to the hotel is the GWU/Foggy Bottom stop on the Orange/Blue line, 3 blocks from The Fairmont. Dulles International Airport (IAD) is approximately 45 minutes from the hotel. Baltimore/Washington Airport (BWI) is approximately one hour from the hotel. Taxis are recommended from Reagan National and Dulles Airports; Super Shuttle is available for ground transportation from BWI (approximate cost is $35 each way), DCA (approximate cost is $12 each way), and IAD (approximate cost is $27 each way).

Continuing Education contact hours will be provided by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing to all conference participants at no additional cost. CE certificates will be provided in your conference packet.
Refund and Cancellation Policy
Registrations that are canceled up to one week before the meeting will be refunded minus a $50 administrative fee. Cancellations received with less than one week’s notice will be refunded minus a $150 administrative fee. There will be no refunds for no-shows.
AACN reserves the right to cancel this conference and any group activity that does not meet minimal group requirements. Non-refundable airline tickets are the responsibility of the registrant.
