Review of two assigned essentials, the outlined competencies, and curriculum content. (Essential # 8, the advanced practice competencies/curricular content will be discussed in the afternoon session.) Each group will answer the following questions in relation to the new graduate of DNP programs:

  • Are these essentials relevant to all nurses practicing at the highest level?
  • Are all the relevant competencies identified?
  • Are some of the competencies non-essential for graduates of the DNP program?
  • What is the most relevant content for the educational experience to develop these competencies?
  • What is missing from the content identified?
  • What other recommendations would you make regarding the competencies?

10:00 - 10:30 a.m.
Break and Transfer of work
Recorders/reporters will transfer their electronic files from the work of their small group work sessions to the AACN computer

10:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon
Presentation by Reporters and Discussion of Reports

Reports should be limited to no more than five minutes to allow for discussion.

Small Group Work

Essential 8, advanced nursing practice essential- small group work will be done by all groups to review the description and articulation of expected competencies for advanced nursing practice and answer the following questions:

  • Are these essentials relevant to all nurses practicing at the highest level?
  • Are all the relevant competencies identified?
  • Are some of the competencies non-essential for graduates of the DNP program?
  • What is the most relevant content for the educational experience to develop these competencies?
  • What is missing from the content identified?
  • What other recommendations would you make regarding the competencies?
  • Do you agree with the differentiation of advanced nursing? If not, give an alternative.

1:30 -1:45 p.m.
Break and Transfer of Work
Recorders/reporters will transfer their electronic files from the work of their small group work sessions to the AACN computer

1:45 - 3:00 pm
Presentation of Small Group Work and Discussion
