Advancing Nursing Practice Excellence: State of the Science

In an effort to showcase the contributions of nurse researchers and influence the national agenda, 23 of the nation's top nursing organizations have joined together to host the 2002 State of the Science Congress in Washington, D.C.

Nurse researchers from around the country will join with recognized experts, funders of nursing research, policy makers, and academic leaders to explore emerging scientific discoveries related to nursing practice.

Conference Highlights

  • Over 180 original research papers, including individual presentations and symposia, will be presented over a three-day period. Chosen from among hundreds of submission, studies featured will impact nursing practice, education, research and healthcare policies.

  • Over 100 posters will be on display with plenty of viewing time for you to fully absorb their content.

  • Looking for funding? Top research sponsors have been invited to exhibit at the Congress and will be available to talk with researchers about potential projects.

  • Exciting preconference highlights include the annual Nightingala reception hosted by the Friends of the National Institute of Nursing Research and a media training session for researchers interested in broadcasting their studies to the world.

Papers, posters and symposia will focus on a variety of nursing research themes including:

Media Training Session
Communicating with the Media: Turning Today's Research into Tomorrow's Headlines
Thursday, September 26, 9:00-11:00 am

This dynamic media training session for nurse researchers and administrators includes professional media trainers and features award-winning journalist Suzanne Gordon, author of From Silence to Voice: What Nurses Know and Must Communicate to the Public. An additional $75 registration fee is required to attend.

The early conference registration fee is $349. The fee for students is $199. Please complete the attached registration form and return with payment by September 6, 2002. Late registration fees will apply after September 6. Letters confirming registration/receipts will be sent to all participants who register by September 6. Please bring a copy of the confirmation letter/receipt to the meeting. If you do not wish to register online, click here for a registration form that can be returned by mail or fax.

Hotel Information
A block of rooms has been reserved at the J.W. Marriott Hotel, 1331 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, DC, 20004, (202) 393-2000. The room rate is $199 single/$219 double. The cutoff date for hotel reservations is September 4, 2002. To make reservations, call the hotel directly at 202-393-2000 or 800-228-9290 and request the group rate for the State of the Science Congress. Reservations made after September 4 will be on a space and rate available basis only.

Transportation
Discounted airfares are available through United Airlines. To make reservations, contact Diplomat Travel at 800-476-2333. United Airlines services both Washington National (15 minutes from hotel) and Dulles International Airport (30 minutes from hotel). In addition, Southwest Airlines services Baltimore/Washington International Airport (one hour from hotel). For Southwest Airlines, call the airline directly at 1-800-433-5368 and refer to ID-RR1990. Regular shuttle service is available from all airports.

Continuing Education
Continuing Education Units will be provided to all conference participants.
