AACN has a long history of leadership
in the establishment of the educational benchmarks that must
be met in the design and implementation of baccalaureate and
graduate nursing programs. In recognition of this history,
the TFEN - DNP is charged with the development of a statement
of the essential curricular elements and competencies that
must be present in programs that offer the doctor of nursing
practice. The TFEN - DNP should coordinate and share perspectives
with the Task Force on the Roadmap to the Doctor of Nursing
Practice. The Task Force is asked to provide progress reports
to the Board quarterly, and to project a completion date of
18 to 20 months.
Charge:
-
Develop the curricular and content requirements for
the DNP as well as identify the competencies to be acquired
in a DNP program.
-
Review curricular
content and competency expectations articulated
in existing "Essentials" documents
as well as other documents relevant to this
charge.
-
Seek
input from diverse stakeholder groups
to inform the process and content of
the "Essentials" document
that will provide consistent guidance
to the full array of Doctor of Nursing
Practice programs.
-
Establish a clear strategy for educational
changes and transition, and hallmarks
that distinguish the DNP from existing
programs that offer the Master of Science
in Nursing.
-
Identify the critical curricular content
that should be present and competencies
that should be acquired for programs in
which master's prepared nursing clinicians
seek to acquire the DNP.
-
Develop recommendations and strategies
for AACN, and the full contingent of AACN's
academic programs to respond to this transition.
Please
address your comments to either the task force chair or AACN
staff liaison noted.
