  • Submitted an article to Nursing Spectrum announcing the Washington, DC area attendees at the August 2003 ELNEC course
  • Working on Pediatric Oncology Palliative Care Guidelines
  • Attended the Maryland Pediatric Palliative Care Summit and discussed initiatives for caring for children in Maryland

  • Organized a national ELNEC-PPC train-the-trainer course in St. Louis, MO with 62 in participants from 19 states, representing 29 programs

 




Melissa Silva

  • Held four inservices on palliative care using the pain, symptom management, and introduction to palliative care ELNEC-PPC modules
  • Participated in medical staff professional rounds on palliative care
  • Participating in the development of pediatric palliative care guidelines by the Children's Oncology Group (COG)
  • Assisted in organizing a regional conference at Children's National Medical Center in collaboration with APON
  • Developed critical pathway and pre-printed orders for palliative care team
  • Planning to conduct focus groups with bereaved families
  • Participated in medical grand rounds on palliative care
  • Developed guidelines for management of fevers at the end of life for the COG pediatric palliative care guidelines

 


 


Karla Wilson

  • Presented pain lecture, including management of pain in palliative care at end-of-life for a nursing orientation and review courses through the Southern California pediatric hematology/oncology education group
  • Lead editor and author of the pain module for APON'S Foundations of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nursing: A Review and Orientation Course
  • Presented Pediatric Palliative Care and End-of-Life Issues at San Diego's Children's Hospital for a medical CME course for physicians on pain management (70 physicians and 20 nurses attended)
  • Presented End-of-Life Care in Pediatric Oncology at the spring 2004 Southern California APON with 225 nurses in attendance
  • Assisted in organizing two APON sponsored ELNEC-PPC courses (Duarte, CA and Washington, DC) with total of 135 attendees at both course
  • Developed pediatric palliative care guidelines related to neurological symptoms associated with end of life for the COG website
  • Revised the Communication module for ELNEC-PPC curriculum
