Geriatric Nursing
Metropolitan State University
Lessons Learned/Advice
to Schools
|
- A competent champion who is knowledgeable in the field
of gerontology, is vital. To establish solid relationships
with long term care, this individual must possess good public
relations skills.
- Geriatric nurse practitioners, who already have established
connections in long term care, should be recruited to teach
gerontology nursing. They know the specialty and have the
capacity to dispel student myths about aging. They must
have active support from their universities and from their
employers.
- Faculty must agree that gerontology content is important.
- Administrative grant tasks would have been better met,
had we written secretarial support into the Hartford geriatric
curriculum grant.
