What aspects of the teaching or content of this course do you feel were especially good?

Fall 2003 letter from student

  • Dr. Aud, I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed gerontology this
semester. I felt that you really conveyed how much you care about
aging adults and their wellbeing. I can honestly say that I always
enjoyed elderly people before, but I had not considered gerontology as
a career. Now, it is a strong contender to the NICU as a potential career path for me.

Winter 2004 (accelerated option students)

  • The teaching not only provided factual information, but it also challenged us by addressing moral and ethical issues.
  • Although I was hesitant about spending an entire semester on geriatric content, I have really enjoyed the content and have learned a great deal from guest speakers and clinical site staff, all of whom are so passionate about the field. I appreciate the exposure to geriatric assessment; this population deserves our best, so we must be able to assess their symptoms properly. I thank you for the course's organization and well thought out lesson plans.

Winter 2004 (generic BSN program students)

  • Great course - I now realize the need for improved care of the elderly.
  • I especially loved the video on the centenarians -it created the perfect mood.
  • The course content helps us in both inpatient hospitals and nursing homes.
  • Guest speakers told stories that were helpful in explaining concepts.
  • Course instructor is passionate about gerontology. She has a caring personality for the older adult.
  • Course instructor always demonstrated a positive attitude and enthusiasm about course content.
  • I thoroughly enjoyed the end of life video.

Fall, 2004 (generic BSN program students)

  • I really like gerontology now. I enjoyed the senior home care visits because we got the chance to talk with patients and to learn from our nurse mentors.
  • I really enjoyed the visits to the retirement apartment community. Its healthy, active residents show us the positive side of aging.
  • The visits to the retirement apartment community helped dispel our aging stereotypes.
