Students Nominate Dr. Mauk for Excellence in Teaching Award

Several students who took The Aging Process taught by Dr. Mauk, nominated her for this teaching award; their nomination sheets included the following comments:

"Dr. Mauk's innovative and interactive teaching strategies have been some of my most memorable learning experiences here at VU. As teacher of The Aging Process, she set up a multi-station lab to help us experience conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and other sensory deficits. We tried to carry out activities such as eating, walking, putting on a button-up shirt with these deficits. These stations helped us experience challenges that our patients live with every day."

"Professor Mauk is very knowledgeable about geriatric health and is very enthusiastic about working with the elderly. Her books and research have contributed greatly to advances in gerontology for students, health care professionals and the patients."

"Dr. Mauk is an exceptional professor. Not only does she have outstanding credentials and service in the field of gerontology, she is very intelligent and well-rounded, and always has time to work with her students and keep them performing at their best."
