The Role of the On Campus Nurse Practitioner Ambassador
The nurse practitioner ambassador serves as an advocate to the National Health Service Corps (NHSC) for students and other faculty in the nurse practitioner program(s) at his/her institution.

The nurse practitioner ambassador is an advocate for the NHSC and its programs, i.e., the Scholarship Program, the Loan Repayment Program, the Summer Internship Program (SEARCH).

The nurse practitioner ambassador is an advocate for the nurse practitioner role in the federal health care system.

In this role the nurse practitioner ambassador is expected to:

  • Identify and mentor students who may need financial assistance for their nurse practitioner education either through the Scholarship Program or the Loan Repayment Program.
  • Identify students who may be interested in practicing in any of the country's underserved areas or with any of the underserved populations.
  • Serve as a resource of information on the NHSC programs for these students and other faculty members.
  • Serve as an advocate for the school in establishing linkages between the nurse practitioner programs and the migrant and/or community health centers (CHC) or other community-based systems of care.
  • Serve as an advocate for the nurse practitioner role in community-based systems of care in order to increase the number of opportunities for nurse practitioners in these health care sites.
  • Serve as a consultant or source of feedback to the NHSC on nurse practitioner issues when the need arises.
