Interprofessional Education (IPE)
IPEC announced the release of an updated version of the Core Competencies for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice, which will have a far-reaching impact on how health and partner professionals are educated and how they practice. First published in 2011, the IPEC core competency document has helped to frame the national dialogue on the need for interprofessional education and practice as a catalyst for improving team-based patient care and enhancing population health outcomes.
The Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) will hold its next Institute on October 5-7, 2016 in Herndon, VA. Additional information regarding this particular institute is available at www.ipecollaborative.org.
The Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) has approved nine additional members through a new institutional membership category, expanding its representation of associations of schools of the health professions to 15.
AACN and the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), in support of the AAMC/AACN Lifelong Learning in Interprofessional Education initiative, are soliciting proposals for educational resources that address the specific needs for teaching health care quality improvement and patient safety to learners from all health professions and across the educational continuum. Four proposals will be selected for a $2,500 award to support development and will be available through MedEdPORTAL®.
On April 8, AACN Director of Special Projects Kathy McGuinn participated in a roundtable discussion sponsored by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and moderated by Jody Frost, Lead Academic Affairs Specialist and Program Director, Education Leadership Institute Fellowship at APTA. The theme of the discussion was “Multidisciplinary Health Professionals Discuss Professionalism and Interprofessional Professionalism.” A link to the video discussion can be found on APTA’s Web site: www.apta.org/Educators/Curriculum/Interprofessional.
