CCNE’s Policy on Disclosure of Accreditation Status and Use of the Accreditation Seal by Accredited Programs

The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) does not require accredited programs to publicly disclose their accreditation status; however, a program or institution that chooses to make a public disclosure must do so accurately and in accordance with CCNE policy.

If a program elects to make a public disclosure of a program's accreditation status with CCNE, the program or institution must disclose that status accurately. The program or institution disclosing the information must identify the nursing program and its affiliation with CCNE. This statement must include either the accrediting agency's full name, address, and telephone number or the accrediting agency’s full name and address of the website home page, which identifies CCNE’s address and telephone number. CCNE has approved the use of either of the following statements for disclosure of the accreditation status to the public:

The (baccalaureate degree in nursing/master's degree in nursing/Doctor of Nursing Practice program and/or post-graduate APRN certificate program) at (institution) is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, One Dupont Circle, NW, Suite 530, Washington, DC 20036, 202-887-6791.

The (baccalaureate degree in nursing/master's degree in nursing/Doctor of Nursing Practice program and/or post-graduate APRN certificate program) at (institution) is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (www.aacn.nche.edu/ccne-accreditation).

Additionally, CCNE-accredited programs are invited to utilize the CCNE accreditation seal with the public disclosure statement. While a program is not required to use the accreditation seal as part of its public disclosure, if the program chooses to use the accreditation seal, the approved language identified above must accompany the seal. Please refer to the specific requirements below related to use of the CCNE accreditation seal.

Please be advised that a new applicant program or other program that does not hold CCNE accreditation status is not permitted to use the seal or to imply in any way that the program is CCNE-accredited.

Use of the CCNE Accreditation Seal

CCNE is pleased to provide accredited programs with the CCNE accreditation seal. CCNE encourages its accredited programs to utilize the seal in their print and electronic media. By displaying the seal and the accompanying disclosure statement, programs are signifying to their constituents that the program has been recognized as maintaining good educational practices in the field of nursing. In order to protect the CCNE brand, programs must follow the usage guidelines as described in the CCNE Accreditation Seal Standards Guide when using the accreditation seal. Programs that are not accredited by CCNE are not permitted to use the CCNE accreditation seal.  Programs that are not authorized to use the CCNE accreditation seal and those appropriately authorized programs that use the CCNE accreditation seal in a manner not consistent with the CCNE Accreditation Seal Standards Guide will be required to correct their print and electronic media immediately at their own expense.  Use of the CCNE accreditation seal implies understanding and acceptance of the provisions outlined in the CCNE Accreditation Seal Standards Guide.
