CNC Announces Proctor Policy Change
The Commission on Nurse Certification (CNC) has announced that effective July 1, 2013, faculty, administrative staff, and/or instructors of CNL education programs may not serve as proctors for the CNL Certification Exam. The purpose for the policy change is to avoid a perceived conflict of interest and to comply with national certification program accreditation standards. Each proctor in compliance with all CNL Certification Exam policies and procedures will be paid $50 for their service during the applicable testing period. To receive payment, proctors must submit a W-9 form to CNC (complete the W-9 using the mailing address on file with the IRS). A check will be mailed to the proctor approximately 45 days after the testing period. For more information, contact Tracy Lofty, CNC’s Director, at tlofty@aacn.nche.edu or call (202) 463-6930, ext. 242.

Cut Score Study of the CNL Certification Exam
The Commission on Nurse Certification (CNC), in collaboration with Schroeder Measurement Technologies, Inc. and CNL subject matter experts, is currently updating items for the CNL Certification Exam. To ensure that the updated exam meets national certification standards, a cut-score study must be conducted. Subject matter experts in collaboration with the testing agency will participate in the study to determine a passing score that reflects the minimal competency of a CNL. Consequently, there will be a delay in all exam score results and pass/fail notices from the April 1-May 24, 2013 CNL Certification Exam period. Those taking the exam from April 1 to May 24 will receive their pass/fail results via email by June 24, 2013. It is extremely important that all examinees include an accurate primary email address on their CNL Certification Application. Successful candidates will receive an email notification of passing only – a score and diagnostic score report will not be provided to the candidate. Unsuccessful candidates will receive an email notification of failing the exam along with the score and diagnostic score report. CNC regrets the delay in the exam results. Originally, the study would have been completed with those registered the first week of April. Unfortunately, the majority of those testing registered for a later date, and a minimum number of examinees is required for the study.
