About the Exam

The CNL Certification Exam is a computer-based three-hour exam. The exam items reflect the CNL Job Analysis Study conducted by CNC and Schroeder Measurement Technologies, Inc.

To maintain the quality of the CNL Certification Exam administration process, CNC’s Board of Commissioners annually reviews feedback from examinees, faculty, and the testing agency. As such, effective July 1, 2014, the CNL Certification Exam will consist of 140 items instead of 150 items. This change does not reduce the reliability of the exam as the number of scored items remains unchanged; past exams have been based upon 128-130 scored items and will continue. This change will, however, reduce the number of unscored pretest items thus allowing the examinee approximately 10 additional minutes to complete the exam with the three-hour time limit.

If you have any questions regarding this change or the CNL Certification Program, contact CNC’s Executive Director, Tracy Lofty at tlofty@aacn.nche.edu.
