Growing and Sustaining the Vision: Implementing the CNL Across a Major Health System
Ten years ago, Dr. Clark’s vision and early research on care delivery models laid the groundwork for the CNL initiative. Flash forward to today when reimbursement for nursing services is being linked to improving care outcomes, the time is right for CNLs to be integrated throughout the country’s healthcare system.  Hear how Dr. Clark’s vision for the CNLs has evolved over the years and how she is working from the ground up to implement and sustain the CNL role across one major healthcare system.

An Editor's Prescription for Successful Publishing
Journals are inundated with papers from students, faculty, and clinicians and many are often unpublishable. This leads to frustration and in many cases, good work is not disseminated. This session will describe the common "fatal flaws" inherent in papers and offer suggestions for increasing the chances of publication.

  • Establishing Yourself in the CNL Role
    CNLs from diverse educational backgrounds, including second-degree and BSN entry, will describe their successful acclamation to CNL clinical practice. Each speaker will describe their path to establishing themselves and promoting the CNL role within their respective clinical settings.

  • Designing the  Master’s CNL to DNP Curriculum
    This session will discuss the commonalities in the Masters and Doctorate of Nursing Practice Essentials and how schools can build a CNL curriculum that allows for articulation into a DNP program.

    To ensure graduates have the opportunity for meaningful interprofessional education (IPE) prior to graduation, CNL faculty in the School of Nursing and partners in the School of Medicine developed an interprofessional clinical education assignment as part of required coursework.  In this presentation, the speakers will describe their unique approach and experiences in creating and implementing the IPE offering, including the products developed and assignments.

Communication For Leadership in Health and Wellness: How Words Can Change Your Brain

In 2003, in response to numerous reports that examined the country’s healthcare system and health professional education and after an extensive national dialogue, AACN published the Working Paper on the Role of the CNL.  This transformational document presented a new vision for what nursing could do to address the many needs and challenges confronting the healthcare system. Hear from one of the CNL movement’s leading advocates who will ponder the  potential for the CNL to lead change, consider what opportunities currently exist, and explore what the future of the CNL may look like.
