Conference
Highlights
The changing demographics
of nursing, the staggering faculty shortage, funding issues
unique to nursing education, and various new roles being
tested for educating and utilizing nurses--particularly
at the graduate level--all call for new leadership strategies.
This year's summer session focuses on increasing your
ability to deal positively with change, transitions, and
ambiguity, all while avoiding burnout.
Session facilitators Drs.
Carole Leland and Rob Williams help you explore strengths
and talents you may not have known you possess, find new
ways to view old issues, and deal more effectively with
faculty in times of change. They both bring experience
in dealing with leadership in higher education and nursing,
as well as international experience in leadership development.
Topics include:
-
your preferences in times
of change and how these affects your leadership
-
interpretation of assessment
instruments that will help you identify personal styles
and
-
preferences in several
leadership dimensions
-
dealing with conflict and
improving communications in times of rapid change
-
your values on leadership
and "followership"
-
keys to more effective
collaboration
-
"traps" in your
leadership style that can limit flexibility
-
other topics related to
leadership and managing change.
The conference includes ample opportunity
for reflection and discussion. Participants are encouraged
to share perspectives, ideas, concerns, and successful strategies.
The format provides time for both learning and leisure.
Bring your colleagues, families, and friends and enjoy the
scenery and recreational activities of this breathtaking
area. Casual attire is encouraged.

goes beyond the simple test of "working together."
This day also will explore cases of effective collaborations
and give participants a chance to analyze personal examples
of collaboration strategies "back home."

The Art of Leadership: Mastery of Action
The third and final day focuses on principles of mastery
of action, including decision making, motivation, and
conflict resolution. This
session uses cases studies to explore the different styles
