Creating and Sustaining Civility in Nursing Education
Nurse educators across the country have reported a distressing increase in incivility in academic and clinical settings, and are eager to reverse this trend. Join an expert on this important topic to gain a better understanding of faculty and student incivility, its impact on academic and practice environments, and the research that investigates this phenomenon. Assess your own workplace civility index and identify pragmatic strategies faculty can implement both individually and collectively to foster a civil, professional learning environment through personal and team educational philosophies, course design, teaching strategies, and expectations of and interactions with students and colleagues.

Forming and Fostering a Professional Identity in Nursing
Nurse educators work diligently to transform students into professional nurses, but the process can be elusive. Helping pre-licensure students develop a professional identity in nursing requires faculty to concentrate on formation rather than socialization. Consider how one forms a professional identity; how the process fits within a transformational way of thinking; and how evidence supports the need for deliberate approaches for developing all professionals, particularly those in nursing.
Speaker: Nelda Godfrey, PhD, RN, ACNS-BC, Associate Dean, Undergraduate Programs, School of Nursing, University of Kansas, Kansas City, KS and co-author of The Making of Nurse Professionals: A Transformational, Ethical Approach
