Explore the concepts of worth, value, importance, and sustainability with respected nursing deans who have had administrative and financial oversight for academics and practice. Identify how successful faculty practice supports the mission of the school and contributes positively to various activities within the nursing academic unit. Discuss additional organizational issues important to faculty practice including administrative support, internal and external marketing, and faculty recruitment. Clear links exist between faculty practice and the school’s research mission. There is growing emphasis on research collaboration among disciplines. And nurses prepared doctorally for both research and practice are increasingly asked to interact with each other around research questions. Consider ways to maximize the links between practice and research in the nursing academic unit, the campus, and the community.
