The DNP Knowledge Bank provides a repository of useful tools for faculty and deans to employ in the planning, development, and implementation of a DNP program. This resource will grow over time to accumulate rich resources for enhancing DNP program development. The DNP Knowledge Bank currently holds Exemplars of Innovative Ways to Offer the DNP (including creative partnerships and diverse modalities of delivery to ensure efficiency of resources), Exemplars of DNP Curriculum, Exemplars of DNP Scholarly Projects, and DNP Power Point Presentations.

DNP Task Force Resources

AACN has convened two DNP task forces in the past, the first to address the DNP road map and the second to address the implementation of the DNP. These resources provide you with the charge for each task force and the listing of task force members.

Exemplars of Innovative Ways to Offer the DNP

In a world of medical provider shortages and shifts in care delivery, an innovative program between Norton Healthcare in Louisville, Ky., and the University Of Kentucky College Of Nursing in Lexington, Ky., is offering a solution. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing to Doctor of Nursing Practice (BSN-to-DNP) option offered by the University of Kentucky College of Nursing in partnership with the Norton HealthCare Institute for Nursing allows nurses with a bachelor’s degree in nursing the opportunity to earn their Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree and sit for certification as an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) in three years.

University of Minnesota  
University of Minnesota receives a $10 Million gift aimed at transforming health care delivery through nursing the visionary $10 million gift announced today by the Bentson Foundation is designated for scholarships for new students in the School of Nursing’s Doctor of Nursing Practice program. The gift will infuse the region with more doctorally-prepared nurses in family practice, pediatrics, geriatrics, midwifery, nurse anesthesia and other fields.

Saint Xavier University/ Rush University MSN-DNP Program
Rush University College of Nursing invited St. Xavier School of Nursing (SXU) in Chicago (which is not authorized to confer doctoral degrees) to explore the possibility of creating a partnership to make the DNP degree program a potential opportunity for their MSN graduates. At this juncture, this was a dean-to-dean discussion between the two private universities.

Minnesota State Colleges and Universities
The Minnesota Association of Colleges of Nursing members, Minnesota Nurses' Association, MnSCU Health Care - Industry Partnership, MnSCU Office of the Chancellor, State University Presidents of MnSCU, graduate deans, and other academic officers joined together to influence Minnesota legislators about the urgent need for the MnSCU system universities to offer doctoral programs. After three plus years of multiple constituents advocating for a statute change, the passing of a 2005 statute provided for MnSCU to offer applied doctoral degrees in education, business, psychology, physical therapy, audiology and nursing.
