Dates: November 14-15, 2012
Location: San Antonio Marriott Rivercenter - San Antonio, TX

General Information

AACN's Executive Development Series (EDS) increases the knowledge and skills needed for successful leadership in a school of nursing at a time of complex and accelerating change in health care and higher education. The EDS meetings are designed to ease the transition of faculty into leadership positions. Faculty new or aspiring to administrative positions as well as recently appointed deans will find this conference particularly beneficial. The workshop format encourages discussion among participants as well as application of program content to one's own setting. Topics change each year, and offer insights into responsibilities faced by nursing education administrators in academic and student affairs and management of financial and human resources. The Executive Development Series is once again offered in conjunction with the Baccalaureate Education Conference; the same program will precede the Spring Annual Meeting.

Conference Highlights

The Executive Development Series and Baccalaureate Education Conference are held consecutively, enabling participants to attend both events.

The popular Executive Development Series (EDS) is designed for aspiring and experienced academic leaders who want to improve their executive skills for a variety of positions within the academic setting. Explore mutual challenges and share solutions in this collegial, interactive environment. This year’s program enables participants to:

  • Identify strategies to create a healthy work environment in the nursing academic unit.
  • Consider what nursing leaders must do to advance interprofessional education.
  • Point the correct direction for the nursing academic unit by critically examining the mission, making tough decisions, and engaging in thoughtful succession planning.
  • Take time to determine how you can better care for yourself in order to be optimally productive as an academic leader.
  • Learn a valuable peer coaching technique and use it to solve one of your real-world problems.
