General Information

The Hot Issues Conference is held every other year focusing on a theme reflecting an issue of most concern at the time to deans and faculty of AACN member schools. The inaugural Hot Issues Conference was held in April 2003, and topics to date have included the faculty shortage, the teaching role, and clinical simulation. 








AbstracT Acceptance Notification

Authors will be notified about the status of their submission(s) via email no later than February 19, 2013. This will be sufficient time to meet the conference registration deadlines and the March 13 hotel cutoff. If you do get accepted as an abstract (podium) presenter, you will need to submit your PowerPoint presentation on the abstract Web site by March 27, 2013. Additional instructions on how to submit will follow if you are accepted.

Conference Highlights

This year’s Hot Issues Conference addresses the use of technology to transform nursing education. The informal and interactive nature of this conference is particularly well suited to the sharing of ideas among speakers and participants. The conference encourages attendees to:

  • Explore online educational delivery models.
  • Discuss productive ways to work with state boards of nursing on distance education issues.
  • Examine regulatory issues that impact the current state of technology use in nursing education as well as consider future directions.   
  • Identify key requirements for online courses that have a clinical component.

The deadline for early registration is March 29, 2013. Late fees will apply to registrations received after March 29. Email messages confirming registration will be sent to all participants.

Hotel Information

A block of rooms has been reserved at the Sheraton Westport Lakeside Chalet, 191 Westport Plaza, St. Louis, Missouri, 63146. The Sheraton Westport Lakeside Chalet is 9 miles from the Lambert-St. Louis International Airport (STL). The hotel offers complimentary airport shuttle between the hours of 6:30 am and 11:00 pm daily. A taxi costs approximately $26 each way.

Continuing Education

Contact hours will be awarded to those who attest to attendance at entire sessions and complete the electronic evaluation process.

The American Association of Colleges of Nursing is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Commission on Accreditation

Refund and Cancellation Policy

All registration cancellations and refund requests must be made in writing by March 29, 2013. A refund of the conference, minus a $150 administrative fee, will be given for cancellations received by that date.

No refunds will be granted for requests received after March 29, 2013. Submit all requests to AACN Conference Registration via email at or via fax (202) 785-8320. Conference registrations are fully transferrable (see Substitution Policy); however, conference fees cannot be transferred to other conferences. AACN regrets that refunds will not be given for no-shows.

AACN reserves the right to cancel this conference and any group activity that does not meet minimal group requirements. Non-refundable airline tickets are the responsibility of the registrant.

Substitution Policy

Registration substitutions are permitted prior to the conference; however, conference fees cannot be transferred to other conferences. Only one substitution is permitted per original registrant. The individual submitting the substitution request is responsible for all financial obligations (any balance due) associated with that substitution as well as updating any contact information.
