General Information

The PhD Summit provides a forum for nursing faculty, deans, and associate deans to discuss the changing nature of research and shape the development of academic programs that will prepare the next generation of nurse scientists. Among the many questions to be addressed at the PhD Summit are the following:

  • How will the changing nature of research – including interprofessional teams and translational science – impact the preparation of nurse scientists?
  • How can faculty best educate and manage a different generation of PhD students?
  • What opportunities and challenges exist with post-baccalaureate and online programs leading to the PhD?
  • What supports are needed to ensure PhD graduates engage in meaningful research?
  • How do PhD programs prepare students to identify and address complex healthcare questions?
  • What research areas need further exploration by nurse scientists?
  • What resources are needed to sustain a successful research enterprise?

The deadline for early registration is September 6, 2013. Late fees will apply to registrations received after September 6. Email messages confirming registration will be sent to all participants.

Hotel Information

A block of rooms has been reserved at the InterContinental Chicago O'Hare Hotel, 5300 N River Road, Rosemont, IL 60018. The special conference room rate is $169 single/double. The cutoff date for reservations at the group rate is August 28, 2013.   • Early Check Out Fee: Full Night’s Room and Tax
  • Late Departure Fee After 12:00pm until 3:00pm: Half the Night’s Room and Tax

Several meals during the institute have been arranged. Attendees will be provided with breakfast, lunch, and a reception on the 19th, as well as breakfast on the 20th. Each participant is responsible for his/her own dinner and any additional meal or beverage charges.

Special Diet Requests
Attendees with known food allergies or dietary restrictions may request special meals via the online form found here: Those who notify us about food allergies or dietary restrictions that prevent from eating the standard entrée selection are provided with a vegetarian/vegan meal based as closely as possible on their specific dietary needs. Special diet requests must be received no later than September 6.

Due to the large number of attendees, substitutions to the vegetarian meal or the standard conference meal may not be possible. Please make alternative meal arrangements if you have several food allergies or very specific dietary restrictions, as our food and beverage options may not meet your needs



Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) is located approximately five minutes from the InterContinental Chicago O'Hare Hotel. 24-hour complimentary shuttle service is available to and from the airport and hotel. The cost of a taxi from this airport to the hotel is approximately $7 each way.

Continuing Education

The American Association of Colleges of Nursing is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Commission on Accreditation.

Contact hours will be awarded to those who attest to attendance at entire sessions and complete the electronic evaluation process after the conference. The CE Certificate will be provided online only after completion of evaluation.

Refund and Cancellation Policy

All registration cancellations and refund requests must be made in writing by September 6, 2013. A refund of the conference, minus a $150 administrative fee, will be given for cancellations received by that date.

No refunds will be granted for requests received after September 6, 2013. Submit all requests to AACN Conference Registration via email at or via fax (202) 785-8320. Conference registrations are fully transferrable (see Substitution Policy); however, conference fees cannot be transferred to other conferences. AACN regrets that refunds will not be given for no-shows.

Substitution Policy

Registration substitutions are permitted prior to the conference; however, conference fees cannot be transferred to other conferences. Only one substitution is permitted per original registrant. The individual submitting the substitution request is responsible for all financial obligations (any balance due) associated with that substitution as well as updating any contact information.
