Online Learning Opportunities from the Hartford Institute

The Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing, New York University College of Nursing, as a partner in the Consortium of New York Geriatric Education Centers, has developed online learning opportunities that are available through the Hartford Institute’s E-learning Center (registration required). Topics in geriatrics are interdisciplinary and cover the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of acute, chronic and life threatening diseases and disabilities, including dementia. RWJF NCIN Program Awards Grants to Fund 400 Scholarships
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) recently announced awards to 52 schools of nursing that will comprise the final cohort of RWJF’s prestigious New Careers in Nursing Scholarship Program (NCIN). For the 2014-2015 academic year, the schools will receive grants to support traditionally underrepresented students who are making a career switch to nursing through an accelerated baccalaureate or master’s degree program. NCIN is a program of RWJF and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN).

Exemplary Academic-Practice Partnership Award
This annual award recognizes AACN member institutions involved in highly productive andmodel academic-practice partnerships.The awards committee is looking for submissions that represent the full spectrum of AACN member institutions, including nominations from small schools, public, and private schools. The award is presented annually at the AACN Fall Semiannual Meeting. Deadline to submit a nomination is June 20, 2014. Policy Luminary Award
The Policy Luminary Award was established by AACN in 2009 to annually recognize an outstanding registered nurse and national leader for his or her public policy achievements. The award is presented annually at the AACN Fall Semiannual Meeting. Each nomination package should include two letters of recommendation from peers, the nominee’s CV, and a one-page bio. Nominations should be submitted electronically to Lauren Inouye at linouye@aacn.nche.edu. Deadline to submit a nomination is June 23, 2014
 
Outstanding Dissertation and Capstone Awards
This awards program recognizes and showcases outstanding dissertations and capstone/scholarly projects completed by students in research- and practice-focused doctoral programs. Deadline to submit a nomination is September 15, 2014. The awards will be presented in January at AACN’s annual Doctoral
Education Conference in two categories:
  • Excellence in Advancing Nursing Science Award: for an outstanding dissertation from a student in a PhD in nursing or DNS program. A dissertation is an original research project that focuses on advancing nursing science and developing new evidence with the potential to guide nursing practice.
  • Excellence in Advancing Nursing Practice Award: for an outstanding capstone/scholarly project from a student in a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program. A capstone/scholarly project demonstrates highlevel mastery of an area of advanced nursing practice and focuses on the translation of evidence into practice.
