2013 DNP Summit
AACN is pleased to be hosting the National Dialogue on Quality and Excellence in DNP Education at the Intercontinental Chicago O’Hare Hotel on April 15-16, 2013.
In October 2004, AACN member schools voted to endorse the Position Statement on the Practice Doctorate in Nursing, which called for moving the level of preparation for advanced nursing practice from the master’s to the doctoral degree by the target date of 2015. In the eight years since this position was taken, nursing schools have made great strides toward realizing this vision with 211 DNP programs now enrolling students in 42 states. In addition to the programs currently available, another 101 programs are in planning stages. AACN recognizes that a great deal of program variation exists and that a “national dialogue” is now warranted.
AACN invites member schools with a DNP program or planning to offer a DNP program to send two representatives to the summit. AACN is also inviting up to two representatives from certification, practice, and/or accrediting bodies relevant to DNP education to attend the Summit as well. Areas to be explored during this conference include:
- Scholarly projects – what should they look like?
- Program timeframes – what is acceptable?
- DNP programs of study – what are appropriate tracks?
- Defining clinical hours – what should they be?
- DNP graduates – what are they doing now and do they make an impact?
- DNP Essentials document (2006) — does it need revising?
Registration is limited to the first 400 attendees. The deadline for registration is April 5, 2013. Late fees will apply to registrations received after April 5. Email messages confirming registration will be sent to all participants.

The special conference room rate is $165 single/double. The cutoff date for reservations at the group rate is March 24, 2013. To make reservations, call the hotel at 800-341-7949 and ask for the group rate for AACN. The room block may fill before the deadline, so please make your reservation early.
Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) is located only 5 minutes from the Intercontinental Chicago O’Hare. A 24-hour complimentary shuttle service is offered by the hotel.
The American Association of Colleges of Nursing is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Commission on Accreditation. Contact hours will be awarded to those who attest to attendance at entire sessions and complete the electronic evaluation process.
Conference materials will be provided on-site.
Refund and Cancellation Policy
All registration cancellations and refund requests must be made in writing by April 5, 2013. A refund of the conference, minus a $150 administrative fee, will be given for cancellations received by that date.
No refunds will be granted for requests received after April 5, 2013. Submit all requests to AACN Conference Registration via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or via fax (202) 785-8320. Conference registrations are fully transferrable (see Substitution Policy below); however, conference fees cannot be transferred to other conferences. AACN regrets that refunds will not be given for no-shows.
AACN reserves the right to cancel this conference and any group activity that does not meet minimal group requirements. Non-refundable airline tickets are the responsibility of the registrant.
Registration substitutions are permitted prior to the conference; however, conference fees cannot be transferred to other conferences. Only one substitution is permitted per original registrant. The individual submitting the substitution request is responsible for all financial obligations (any balance due) associated with that substitution as well as updating any contact information.
