First Cohort Selected for the Inaugural AACN-Wharton Executive Leadership Program AACN is pleased to announce the inaugural class of nursing deans and senior faculty leaders who have been selected to participate in the new AACN-Wharton Executive Leadership Program. ELNEC Receives New Funding from Milbank Foundation The Milbank Foundation for Rehabilitation has awarded grant funding to the City of Hope to educate nursing faculty on how to provide better palliative care education to students who will in the future be orchestrating care for veterans with life-threatening illnesses. This work will be conducted through the End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC), a national nursing education project administered by the City of Hope and AACN, and will support the commitment of nursing schools nationwide engaged in the White House’s Joining Forces initiative.

New AACN Data Show an Enrollment Surge in Baccalaureate and Graduate Programs Amid Calls for More Highly Educated Nurses According to new data released today by AACN, enrollment in baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral nursing programs increased last year as more nurses answered the call to advance their education. Though nursing schools have been able to expand student capacity despite faculty and resource shortfalls, the latest data show that 75,587 qualified applications to professional nursing programs were turned away last year, including more than 14,354 applications to graduate programs.

Master’s Essentials Tool Kit Now Available At its January meeting, the AACN Board of Directors approved a new faculty tool kit that was developed to facilitate implementation of the 2011 Essentials of Master’s Education in Nursing. The tool kit was developed to provide key resources to assist schools as they engage in curricular redesign to incorporate the Master’s Essentials; suggest integrative learning strategies that will strengthen learning and leadership development; stimulate strong academic-practice partnerships; and provide a forum for sharing innovative curricular and program ideas across schools.
