AACN Mourns the Loss of Margaret Lewis, Former Dean at Florida A&M University

AACN is mourning the passing of Dr. Margaret Lewis, former dean of the Florida A&M University (FAMU) School of Nursing. Dr. Lewis died on December 22. She served as dean of nursing at FAMU from 1982 until her retirement in 2003. Dr. Lewis is credited with many advancements at FAMUL, including the establishment of the FAMU RN-BSN program. She also established a master’s program with a specialty in advanced adult/gerontological practice.

Dr. Lewis earned her master’s degree from Ohio State University and a doctorate degree from Florida State University. Prior to becoming dean of the FAMU School of Nursing, Dr. Lewis was an associate professor and director of the Division of Nursing at Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina. Read more >>
