AACN Partners with AfterCollege to Establish a Nationwide Nursing Career Network and Scholarship Program

AfterCollege and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing to provide career resources and scholarships to students at over 600 nursing schools

WASHINGTON, D.C., December 13, 2006 – AACN and AfterCollege have formed a strategic partnership that will provide scholarships and access to job opportunities to tens of thousands of nursing students nationwide. AACN, in conjunction with AfterCollege, will award scholarships to nursing students pursuing baccalaureate and graduate degrees at affiliated nursing schools. At the same time, AfterCollege will enable students to research relevant job opportunities from its nationwide network of employers through Job Resource Centers available on nursing schools’ web sites and through an exclusive Job Resource Center on the AACN web site.

The partnership provides for an AfterCollege/AACN Scholarship Program that will award $20,000 in funding annually to students pursuing baccalaureate and graduate degrees at constituent AACN schools. Scholarship preference will be given to students pursuing doctoral degrees as well as students enrolled in accelerated programs at the baccalaureate and master’s levels.

AfterCollege currently provides Job Resource Centers to 317 nursing schools and associations throughout the country. Through the new partnership, all 600 AACN-member nursing schools will be able to provide their students and alumni with targeted job opportunities and announcements at the local, state and national levels.

“AACN is pleased to commence this new partnership that will create a new funding opportunity for nurses enrolled in professional nursing programs as well as career resources,” said AACN President Jeanette Lancaster. “We look forward to working with AfterCollege to provide valuable online resources to assist new and recent graduates who are searching for the right environment to begin their nursing practice.”

“We are pleased to align ourselves with AACN. AfterCollege’s services have been adopted in nursing communities locally and at the state level throughout the country, and we see this being a natural fit,” said Marc Dee, Director of University Relations of AfterCollege. “We welcome AACN to the AfterCollege Network and look forward to supporting their schools and helping students find the best possible opportunities.”

The American Association of Colleges of Nursing is the national voice for university and four-year-college education programs in nursing. Representing more than 600 member schools of nursing at public and private institutions nationwide, AACN's educational, research, governmental advocacy, data collection, publications, and other programs work to establish quality standards for bachelor's and graduate-degree nursing education, assist deans and directors to implement those standards, influence the nursing profession to improve health care, and promote public support of baccalaureate and graduate nursing education, research, and practice.
