Response to Hurricane Katrina

 

 

The following Schools of Nursing are able to accommodate students and/or faculty in baccalaureate and graduate nursing programs from schools impacted by Hurricane Katrina. This list will be continually updated as new information is received.


GEORGIA

Kennesaw State University, Wellstar School of Nursing
Kennesaw, GA

Accommodation: Up to 25 undergraduate students and 5 graduate students in nurse practitioner programs. Limited space in the dormitories is available

ILLINOIS

Chicago State University Department of Nursing
Chicago, IL

North Park University School of Nursing
Chicago, IL

Accommodation: Up to 10 graduate nursing students from the impacted areas.

MISSOURI

University of Missouri-Columbia School of Nursing
Columbia, MS

Accommodation: MU will provide visiting status for one semester to displaced students from Missouri schools on a space available basis. The University will suspend billing for tuition and fees pending clarification of students' status at their home institutions.

TENNESSEE

University of Memphis Loewenberg School of Nursing
Memphis, TN

Accommodation: The University of Memphis will enroll displaced nursing students from any state and can accommodate more than 300 additional students in its dormitories and student apartments. Transcripts will not be necessary. Students who have already paid tuition at their "home" school will have their tuition waived. All out-of-state tuition will be waived.

VIRGINIA

University of Virginia School of Nursing
Charlottesville, VA

Accommodation: Virginia residents who were enrolled as undergraduate students in schools located in New Orleans as well as displaced graduate students. Some space in the residence halls is available. Students must contact UVA immediately since the semester is already underway.

WISCONSIN

University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Nursing
Madison, WI

Accommodation: Displaced students who fall into three categories: (1) Wisconsin residents who are freshmen at an institution closed by storm damage who had been previously accepted to UW-Madison; Wisconsin upperclassmen and freshman not previously admitted and attending another institution closed by the hurricane; and non-resident students. Once students make their way to Madison, the university will assist with their housing search Students seeking accommodation must enroll by September 23.
