Leaders in academic nursing may be confronted by many types of legal challenges. This presentation will address selected legal issues in faculty employment such as hiring, faculty appointment, retention, discrimination, and evaluative standards / criteria. Important judicial opinions / decisions will be utilized to illustrate the selected legal aspects that may affect the decision making processes of academic leaders. Collaboration with legal counsel in addressing legal issues in higher education will be stressed.
