TeamSTEPPS® is an evidence-based teamwork methodology aimed at optimizing patient outcomes by improving communication, collaboration, and teamwork skills among health care teams. Developing and strengthening teamwork among health care personnel is a key initiative within the patient safety domain and can transform the culture within health care. Patient safety experts report that communication and other teamwork skills are essential for the provision of quality health care and for the prevention and mitigation of medical errors and patient injury and harm.
Richard Ricciardi, PhD, NP, FAANP, Health Scientist
Dr. Ricciardi is a Health Scientist in the Center for Primary Care, Prevention, and Clinical Partnerships at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. Dr. Ricciardi is Pediatric and Family Nurse Practitioner who received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from SUNY Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn NY; a Master of Science from The University of Maryland, Baltimore MD; and a PhD from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Bethesda MD. Before joining AHRQ in 2010, Dr. Ricciardi served on active duty for thirty years and had numerous positions with the Department of Defense, working as a Nurse Practitioner, Senior Leader, and Clinical Scientist. His research interests include disease prevention and health promotion, human performance and fitness, and the delivery and organization of primary health care. He maintains a clinical practice at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
